And Some More Pictures from Savannah

More Pictures from Savannah

BIG HAPPENINS IN SAVANNAH GA.

First stop, the goal of our road trip, the Lady and Sons Restaurant. We drove by at 11AM and saw crowds of people and got nervous. We parked the car and raced over to the restaurant. The hostess gave us the next available seating time which as at 9:15 PM! Eric worked his magic and southern charm and got us in immediately sitting at the bar. The true foodies we are, we both opted for the all you can eat buffet. There was a myriad of food such delectable’s included fried chicken, baked chicken, southern lasagna, mac n cheese, collard greens, lima beans, black eyed peas and so much more. It also included a salad bar with lettuce that was untouched by all the patrons. Brandon the Bead Boy, brought us our Ho Cake and Biscuit while Hector the Bartender later served us an assortment of desserts. (See pics below) Waddling out of the restaurant it was time to commemorate our trip with souvenirs from Paula’s store. We walked around aimlessly looking to spend our money and unbeknownst to us the DEAN BOYS WERE THERE! OMG OMG OMG our hearts fluttered and our Arm hair was raised! We grabbed two books and fought our way to the line. We made our way to the front and got them to sign our books and take some photos with us. OMG OMG OMG OMG! Sighhh….this made driving 11 hours through NC worth it! Elated with what had happened with what had happened we decided to tour the city of Savannah on a trolley. Lots of Historical happenins there, none of which we remember. However we did stumble upon the peanut shop and candy shop where we sampled our little hearts out. DELICIOUS! See below for fun pics of us in the city.

North Carolina………..WHERE THE ?#$&%* ARE WE?!?!?!?!?

Our game plan after the museum was to hit up the only Dunkin Donuts in a fifty mile radius and plan our route for the rest of the day. Whilst there, we decided we did not want to see anything else in NC and planned to either make it to Charleston or Hilton Head South Carolina tonight. When we left the DD it was 3:30 in the afternoon. What seemed like an eternity later we made it to Hilton Head Island at 2:30 AM the next day. Let us tell you about our 11 HOUR trip. Our 2 GPS led us down Hick from Sticks one lane roads where we saw beautiful, luxurious, decorated trailer homes. We’re talking double wide, single wide any kind you can imagine we saw. After not seeing civilization for five hours and eating through half a bag of pretzels, we stumbled upon the Wild Boar. It was like God was sending us a sign to please stop and eat because Lord knows when you are going to see another restaurant. The Wild Boar was delicious. We consumed fried pickles and our second BBQ sandwich of the trip. We hit the road again. At 11 at night salvation came in the form of South of the Border when we knew we were out of that wretched state. We stopped to take some fun photos and grab a quick cola to pep us up for the next three hours- 200 miles. UHHHHH IT WAS HELL!! We then were not able to locate condominium complex in Hilton Head because it was unreachable by one GPS and nonexistent by the other. We visited the beautiful Sea Pines complex and immediately dismissed saying that we did not belong there. We then had to call my brother at 2:30 AM for directions to the correct place. ALLELUIA We made it! SLEEP!

North Carolina…The “SO CALLED” Home of the Wright Brothers and their Museum.

Right over the border in NC we were pleased to discover that we were extremely close to the Wright Brother’s Museum which is located in Kitty Hawk in the Outer Banks of NC. We paid our four dollar admission and took our seats in the auditorium ready for an engaging lecture. We almost dozed off in the front row during the engaging talk and found out that the Brother’s were from Dayton Ohio and only came to Kitty Hawk because it’s the sixth windiest, secluded city. The Brother’s did not like the press. After the talk, we then took a self guided walking tour of the Wright Brother’s first ever runway where flight was discovered. We also visited a monument that was erected in their names, Orville and Wilbur.

A Couple Hours Later….And still in the same state….LUNCH!

One may ask why we would have lunch only two and half hours after breakfast, but flipping through the book we realized we NEEDED to stop at Doumar’s in Southern Virginia. (www.doumars.com) Two reasons for stopping here:
1. Our first BBQ sandwich of the trip.
2. The birthplace of the ice cream cone.
How could one pass up such opportunity. The prices were exceptionally reasonable and service was at rapid speed but not with a smile. Our drinks and food were served at the same time. We had to use the outhouse in the back to go to the bathroom with a key on a stick. We illegally snuck a picture of the very first ice cream cone machine for your viewing pleasure. Please do not attempt to make this machine at home.

Breakfast at Baldy’s

The roadtrip USA book led us to a great local breakfast joint, and boy it was as local as local can be. The name was changed from the book to Mr. Baldy’s and the dirt parking lot was filled with pick- up trucks. We greeted by Flo and stared by all three booths full of toothless men. One even just got his new prosthetic leg. Flo whispered the breakfast special to Eric (Ham and cheese omelet). Eric accepted the offer and I had the Veggie omelet with Egg beaters. After breakfast we purchased some post cards to commemorate it and got the hell out of there. We were off to lunch in Southern Virginia.

Our Visit through Our Nation's First State

We were exited to be in Delaware and to be off of the ferry a little sea sick and definitely hungry. Kelly somehow remembered the location of a mexican restaurant she had once been to before. Whilst making sharp, erratic turns we somehow found the famed mexican restaurant named, Agave. We dined on Super Nachos and more mexican delights. Deeeeelicious!!

We drove some more through the town of Lewes and stumbled upon a Christmas Creature that I had to jump out of the car and take a picture of him.

Our last stop in Delaware was the Fenwick Island Lighthouse. Apparently in years past, there was some sort of conflict between two states as to who owned this lighthouse. If you would like to know more please research it on the internet. We did not have Wi-Fi at that time.

A last minute decision was made to drive straight through the rest of Delaware and through Maryland without stopping in order to make it to Virginia tonight. After stopping at many a hotel, we found one that fit our budgetary needs. YES!!!

We have many activities and states to get through tomorrow so we are off to bed for the night. Stay tuned for more.

I’LL ALWAYS LOVE YOU JACK!

Here we sit on the Cape May – Lewes Ferry writing this entry. It is now 5:32 and we are swaying with the waters. Why we decided to take the ferry we can’t remember because both of us get SEA SICK! We are excited for all our adventures to come in Delaware and Maryland. Stay tuned, hopefully we can find a place to sleep tonight.

More Lucy Pictures!

Just because we loved her so.....

I Love Lucy!

After the debacle of Atlantic City we needed a pick me up. LUCY here we come. This 55 foot elephant is one of the wonders of the world. Everyone should take the trip to visit her. http://www.lucytheelephant.org/. Promptly at two Eric and I took the tour of Lucy. We went in through her left rear leg and up a very tight, narrow, winding staircase into the belly of the beast. Lucy is gorgeous inside. See pictures below for our adventures at Lucy. If anyone is interested they are serving Valentines dinner inside of Lucy for 420 dollars a couple! What a deal!

ATLANTIC CITY BABY, It’s my kind of town!

After dealing with the confusing streets and self parking lot conundrum we made it into the Tropicana casino which was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Snow falling from the ceiling and all the tinsel you can dream of. We decided that our gambling limit would be five dollars each. After losing our five dollars in five seconds we decided to increase out limit to ten each. Thirty seconds later we were out twenty bucks on the nickel machines!
Because our luck was crappy we thought the best thing to cheer us up would be food/taffy. So we braved the elements and the hard hitting streets of Atlantic City and hit the boardwalk. It was two degrees and windy, hoods up and tied. We walked about 500 feet to the first open place that had taffy, bought a box and stepped back out to brave the wind once more. We savagely opened the box of taffy and to break our teeth on the two year old box that we bought. To our dismay when we walked back into the hotel there was a taffy store inside! They had delicious and fresh taffy. We headed back to the car only to realize we were in the wrong garage. Fighting to stay alive and warm we were escorted back to our car by security (In a good way).
